e-Bikes:

The Fun and Easy Way to Explore

One of the best ways to see Europe’s towns and cities is by doing what the locals do and using a bicycle. Scenic make it even easier with a complimentary fleet of e-Bikes, ready for you to effortlessly explore on two wheels.

In Europe, you’ll see cyclists literally everywhere, going about their daily business. In Amsterdam for instance, it’s estimated that 80 per cent of the population own a bicycle.

As a visitor to these regions, you’ll soon learn why seeing the highlights of each port and town on two wheels makes so much sense. Compact, lightweight, easy to navigate the narrow laneways, helping maintain your physical fitness and providing the ultimate freedom to roam further. Bicycles are one of the smartest (and most eco-friendly) ways to explore around a city and surrounding countryside.

"The Scenic roads in life leave you with the greatest of memories."

Charles de Haan

"Melk to Dürnstein along the Danube. Simply magical."

Maryanne Saturno - Scenic Guest

Guests travelling on a 5-star, truly all-inclusive Scenic Europe river cruise have an added advantage: our electronically assisted bikes (e-Bikes) are complimentary for all guests to use. They are designed to do the hard work for you if you so wish; or switch to self-pedalling mode for more of a workout. They are suitable for all levels of fitness with adjustable modes and controls, plus you can cover approximately 50km at a time before recharging is required. All you need is the basic skills of bike-riding to be able to set off with ease.

With your smartphone pre-loaded with the your Scenic Tailormade App, you can venture independently and explore, or join in one of the Scenic Freechoice small group e-Bike tours with a guide and immerse yourself in the local landscapes.

Here are some of the most popular European destinations you can explore by e-Bike during your Scenic Europe river cruise.

Dürnstein and Melk, Austria

One of our most popular bike rides is along the 32km banks of the Danube River between Dürnstein and Melk in Austria. Pass by Melk’s incredible 18th century Benedictine Abbey during this Scenic Freechoice activity experienced during our 15-Day Jewels of Europe itinerary. Cycle past terraced vineyards, orchards and the medieval castle of Burg Aggstein.

Captain’s Road, Bordeaux, France

From the fortified city of Blaye, take a 30km roundtrip along the Captain’s Road, which is named in honour of the World War I Captains who purchased their homes along this beautiful stretch of riverfront. Marvel at the World Heritage-listed Citadel of Blaye developed as a defence system military base in the 17th century. Experience this during the 11-Day Beautiful Bordeaux itinerary.

Vernon to Giverny, France

During the 11-Day Normandy & Gems of the Seine cruise, explore around the legendary Seine River by e-Bike with a self-guided cycling tour. Cycle from your Scenic Space-Ship at the port in Vernon approximately 5km to Giverny where you can visit the home and gardens of Impressionist painter, Claude Monet. Take in the beautiful surrounds of Giverny that so inspired the ‘painter of light’, with the added bonus of having your Scenic Tailormade App in your pocket to consult en route.

If you love the thought of combining guided touring with the freedom to explore independently, then our Scenic e-Bikes are the ideal option for you. These are just some of the locations where you can set off in childlike with the freedom to ‘e-wander', feeling a breeze against your face, exchanging greetings with locals as you pass and stopping wherever you like for refreshments or to take that perfect holiday snapshot. Two-wheel touring has never been so easy.

*Safety helmets will be supplied and should be worn when riding e-Bikes. Not available in all locations.
