The Holistic Benefits of
Salt Therapy
This age-old therapy is a perfect way to relax, unwind and boost your wellness on your Scenic Space-Ship — all at the same time.
Author Karen Blixen once said, “The cure for anything is salt water: sweat, tears or the sea.” But we’ve got a fourth one to add: salt room therapy.

Step inside a salt cave
Salt therapy is exactly what it sounds like: healing therapy using mineral salts. It’s said to have been used since medieval times, but the benefits were only truly discovered in the 1800’s when miners in Eastern Europe emerged from salt mines with glowing skin and clear lungs. A Polish doctor, Feliks Boczkowski, discovered these benefits and opened the first salt-based healing centre in a salt mine near Krakow, Poland.
Over the years, more doctors noticed these benefits and more healing centres were created across Europe and the world.
Nowadays, you certainly don’t need to find your nearest salt mine to experience the health benefits. Man-made salt caves are chic, spa-like rooms with comfortable chairs, walls made from salt-bricks and the floor scattered with crystals of the healing mineral. Simply sit back and relax while the salt does its work.
Healing for body and mind
Salt therapy has been linked to many health benefits - everything from boosting your immune system to enhancing your sleep.
Breathing in the benefits
Salt therapy can be thought of as a deep clean for your airways. As you breathe in the salt particles in the air of the room, they’ll enter your respiratory system and absorb anything that shouldn’t be there, like pollutants, irritants and toxins.
The salt also acts as an anti-inflammatory, so you’ll leave the room breathing easier. It’s also said to relieve symptoms of respiratory conditions like asthma, bronchitis and the common cold.
All aglow
It’s not just the airways that benefit from salt’s deep cleaning abilities, the skin does, too. Skin conditions like eczema, rosacea and psoriasis are all said to benefit from salt therapy. Those without a skin condition report leaving salt therapy rooms with a healthy glow.
A haven of calm
The Salt Therapy Lounge on selected Scenic Space-Ships accommodates two guests at a time and is the perfect space to revitalise after a long flight, for a moment of solitude or relax with a book after a busy day of exploring onshore.
